I hate moving!
Everything about it - the packing. The showing of the house. Feeling invaded as I need to leave the house for someone to come in and scrutinize my closets. Yuk!!!!! Any best practices or suggestions from fellow floorters!

Yes. Hire it done. Go to sleep. Wake up. Drive to new house. Go to sleep. That's the only way I'll ever move again.

I tried that and hated it too... People came to my house and emptied drawers into boxes. Stuff broke, it was a mess... plus, I didn't know where anything was for ages. But know what? What I hate the most is the house selling process - especially in this economy, when the buyers are kings.

I understand. We just sold our Colorado property. Got a decent price but what a jerk buyer. Nearly a million dollars at stake and he fights over 100$.

US Navy for 22 yrs - moved about 8 times. Sucks, even thought it was 'free' and they came in and did virtually everything. The damaged stuff; the 'missing' stuff (where did it go?); the mental upheaval. It is enough to make you tie an anchor to your butt or grow roots!
Here is another pain on the same lines... Getting a new carpet installed. OMG! U might as well move to a new house! What a pain! Finding a place for all your furniture while the people install the rug. We actually had to put stuff in boxes so they could move our dressers and cabinets (they had to be emptied IAW their instructions!) Here it is three weeks later and it still looks like we just moved in with some stuff not put away yet....:>(

I remember moving as a child and my mom got to be a pro at it (being a minister's wife.) I don't want to move again if I don't have to, but I did take lessons from her. We had as much unpacked and in place that first day as possible. It eases the long term stress. When I moved into this house, I think I had it set up in a matter of a day or two. I can't stand boxes! I hope your move goes smoothly, and you get settled quickly.

I did get pretty organized didn't I? Always could get cars in garage the first night, too, and electronics set up and operational.

Except in Carmel. Took you 2 years to get the formal living room electronics set up. I actually set them up one day because I was frustrated. I wanted music! All the other times, though, we moved and unpacked very fast. It's a habit I'm very glad I learned.
