Windows 7 doomed to follow Windows Vista...

... or so it seems from initial reviews. Vista had great reviews when it was first released. But somehow its popularity took a nose dive when people started using it. I don't see what the big deal is on all the Vista hate. I like it. The UI is nice and very MAC like. And no I don't want a MAC just because of that... they're too damn expensive. I've never had any crashes or drive issues. Games are awesome on it. Yeah, programs are never compatible with any new OS that just came out, that's the nature of the beast. Yes, Win7 will have the XP Mode but you gotta pay for an extra license for that from what I read. Anyways, Windows 7 is out now and people are raving about it. Will Windows 7 meet the same fate as its Vista predecessor? Or will it succeed like WinXP and Win98 before it?

Oh, and tell us what you like and don't like about Windows 7, or Vista... based on your own experience.

Doomed? Well it is important to note that Windows Vista shipped a year earlier than Windows Server 2008, so the client version of Windows 7 has had an extra year of development. Unlike Vista that was hurried out the door. I’m reading that four out of ten businesses are already planning upgrades to Windows 7 which is a monumental win for Microsoft. Still, this release is in the fetal stage, there is much to come in the next year or two. Personally, I’m using little of 7 and only on a laptop (battery use is not as good), I never even considered Vista, what a mess. It’s very hard to move on when you’re using a good OS that has had a long time to work out all the quirks. And that’s where XP is now…as far as Microsoft is concerned.

I've been using Vista Business (64) at the office and have had no problems whatsoever. I can't say that I'm any kind of fan of one OS over another. As long as I can run my apps w/o crashing I'm a happy camper.

I'm starting to use autocad again and that's the ONLY reason I bought a windows base computer, I went for the vaio because of the style but it turn out to be the WORST mistake I have ever made when it comes to electronics. Vista is complicated, badly design, very no real enovation.
I'm happy with my iPhone and my mac, and for sure I will not make the same mistake of getting a windows base electronic (computer, car, phone, etc).
I know you don't wanna hear this but Microsoft has become a great example of the capitalism we should fight against

I think the problem with Vista was that it was incompatible with many legacy applications at the corporate level. Mac has the same issues, but doesn't seem to care as much. For one thing, corporations don't have millions invested in custom Mac apps.

Well, I say succeed! I've been using Windows 7 since last August when the RC came out. I installed it on a 6 year old computer that used to run XP, and I was blown outta here!! It ran so problem free and so stable I was surprised because I thought it would lag, but NO! Amazing!

The taskbar is also amazing!! Incredibly revolutionary for Windows. I now have Windows 7 Ultimate running on my Assistant laptop and at the moment, I'm rebuilding my old computer and doing case mods on that and Windows 7 will also be on it. I haven't experienced any system problems at all in the past year.
Yes, it may be built off Vista, but all Windows systems were built off each other. It's like Vista, but it works!

The big deal with Vista hate can be explained with the registry.

I've worked on quite a few peoples' computers and some have been running Vista. After less that a year that they got their vista machines, it's slower that a sac of crap! The problem is because the registry becomes very fragmented easier than XP or 7 does because vista was I think released earlier than Microsoft wanted. That's why it sucks so hard.

Oh, if you do have vista, word to the wise, get yourself a registry cleaner and freeware for disk defragmenting. The disk defrag in vista is pretty redundant and the schedule that it runs if I remember right, it defrags the hard drive when it's at 10 percent. With vista and fragmentation of that, anger occurs.
