You never know whom to believe any more

I got a tweet from a respected friend that said go to this website and read the real truth about healthcare. So I went and downloaded the 10-page summary published by 'Liberty Counsel' who touts themselves as 'A NATIONWIDE PUBLIC INTEREST RELIGIOUS CIVIL LIBERTIES LAW FIRM' Sounded ominous but I took a look. Right on the first page, I see this...

'Sec. 122, Pg. 29, Lines 4-16 - YOUR HEALTH CARE WILL BE RATIONED!'

So I followed their link ot the actual bill to read that section and found this.

4 (A) ANNUAL LIMITATION.—The cost-shar
5 ing incurred under the essential benefits pack
6 age with respect to an individual (or family) for
7 a year does not exceed the applicable level spec
8 ified in subparagraph (B).
9 (B) APPLICABLE LEVEL.—The applicable
10 level specified in this subparagraph for Y1 is
11 $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for a
12 family. Such levels shall be increased (rounded
13 to the nearest $100) for each subsequent year
14 by the annual percentage increase in the Con
15 sumer Price Index (United States city average)
16 applicable to such year.

Now, to my reading, I see that the government is setting a limit to the amount they will co-pay for your medical in annual amounts. No-one ever said it should be unlimited. How is this rationing? Why shouldn't a gov't plan be limited? This is exactly what reasonable Democrats want. A basic plan for everyone with options for you to go beyond for additional care. How can a conservative say he against socialized medicine yet this section is what prevents it?

Of course, it is funny that the title of the web page is "What Americans Need to Know About The Healthcare Takeover"

Conservatives know that Americans are scared of words like 'takeover' and 'socialized' so they squeeze them in whenever they can.

Going back to the bill and reading this section it appears that this means that the consumer (patient) will not have to come out of pocket more than $5k($10k) each year. Sec 122 covers the definition of the "essential benefits package".

Reading the actual bill is important. The final product may not look exactly like what we see now but it's the best we have to go on. Personally, the most disturbing aspect of the bill I see is that all the "commissions" and "administrations" this bill calls for (from what I have read thus far) are to be filled primarily by presidential appointees. This gives the executive branch VAST control over all aspects of the health care system and takes that control away from the closest thing the people have to representation which is congress.

The whole idea of having a Republican form of government is that the people would have general oversight of the mechanics of government. By placing so much authority in the hands of a single branch of government - and a single person - we are putting at risk too much of our liberty.
