To fund universal health care in France, workers are required to pay about 21 percent of their income into the national health care system. Employers pick up a little more than half of that. (French employers say these high taxes constrain their ability to hire more people.)

If your income tax has an added tax of 21% in the US that would equate to 31 to 56% tax rate depending on your bracket. (that's if I figured this correctly)
I also figure if government health care is cheaper for a business to participate in, people will loss their current insurance, once the company dumps the private insurance plan to save the business money. So the choice is not going to be up to the indivisual, as Obama states but it will be up to the business community, in many cases.

Don't forget that Sicko and other Michael Moore films are specifically edited to show only what he wants to show. They do not represent a broad picture. Yes, they are factual for the most part but they aren't all the facts. Also be careful of the assumptions and conclusions drawn as a result of those facts. In many places, universal healthcare is relished by the poor because they don't pay the taxes that have to pay for it.

We WILL get some sort of government assistance in healthcare as a modern nation needs to provide for the health of it's citizens. Just as it provides protection, education and infrastructure.
