With Russia's mentality sounding like the old Cold War thinking it's not really smart to cut back on military funding. Projects like the F-22 will be needed to show Russia we are staying strong and will not be intimidated by their tactics.

"Deputy Defense Minister Col. Gen. Alexander Kolmakov was quoted by Russian media on Monday as saying that the Caucasus 2009 exercises were adjusted as a result of the NATO games and would be "quite major, as compared with those that were conducted in Soviet times."

Obama should be concerned about protecting the masses looking to keep their democratic independence or seeking it. Instead he gives legitimacy to leftist dictators with his weak and improper responses(IE: Isreal, Iran, Honduras...). Now here's another situation with countries being intimidated or threatened by Russia and hopefully Obama will take a strong stance with Russia.

The only problem with the "Cold War" theory is that if there's going to be a "war" there need to be adversarial parties. If Russia makes any more of a move in Georgia than it already has whos' going to stop them?

Georgia got no support when Russia pulled into South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Do you really think Obama is going to do more than Bush did?

Saakashvili's only hope is to get accepted into NATO and even then if Russia threatens to mess with the European gas supply he'll still get kicked to the curb.

Don't know about the 'cold war' reference, but we certainly need to keep defenses high in this crazy world. Our aggressive behavior of the past 8 years has turned much of the world against us.
