Hannity is SUCH a loser

I actually decided to listen to Sean Hannity today. When I tuned in, he was ranting about how horrible it was that Obama had increased the required gas mileage on new cars made in America. His assumption was that it was bad for government to be in business. And to some extent, I agree. But what conservatives never ask themselves is why does he need to do this at all? Because corporate greed and big oil influence keeps them form it. We could have had 50MPG cars decades ago, but profits are more important. It is truly sad that the federal government has to step in. Clearly, when left to their own devices much of free enterprise focuses on greed and profit, not what is best for everyone.

Then the really sick part. He threw in the line... 'at the expense of your safety.' His glaring assumption was that since auto-makers now had to provide better mileage on cars, they would stop paying attention to the safely of those cars. When we talk about the mindless sheep who listen to Hannity, this is what we are talking about. He throws in these ridiculous assumptions designed to scare you into an antli-liberal rant.

News for Mr. Hannity. Read some history. In the 1950's Ford introduced seat belts. Pressure from GM and other auto makers forced them to remove them. It wasn't until that screaming liberal, Ralph Nader brought it up that they compromised profits for public safety. Why is it bad to get better mileage? What is bad is that the government has to even consider taking actions. Why don't big corporations do it on their own?

Hannity is such a loser. He is desperate for ratings and the anti-liberal hate machine is in full swing.

Why don't his fans ever point out these absurd assumptions? Does it really feel that good to be full of hate? I am really saddened.

First off, let’s talk about “greed”. If auto manufacturers figured that the public was craving high mileage vehicles over things like trucks, SUV’s and minivans why WOULDN’T they be making these cars? They’d be certain to make more money if that was what the public wanted to buy. The fact of the matter though is that the public hasn’t been buying high mileage vehicles in anything like remarkable numbers.

People buy things, ultimately, because they have a particular need for a particular product or service. Perhaps the need is something as simple as getting to and from work every day. Sure, mileage might be a big consideration in that purchase but it isn’t the only consideration. If you have kids then you want a vehicle that gets you to and from work BUT you also need it to be big enough to accommodate the kids and all the accessories that come with kids. What happens now is that you buy a vehicle that is the most fuel efficient IN A PARTICULAR CLASS. That is, instead of buying the 30Mpg “crossover” you buy the 22Mpg minivan.

The other big issue in purchasing a car is price. Most buyers finance their purchase so “sticker” price has less impact than the monthly payment does. To that end, if the viable monthly payment a buyer can afford is $300.00/mo ($15k car @ 7.5% for 60 mos.) then they won’t buy a more expensive car even if it is more fuel efficient. Even if the more fuel efficient model was only $3000.00 more the buyers payment would be $60/mo higher and that difference is enough to preclude a lot of buyers from making the additional investment. People’s budgets are what they are and the costs associated with building cars are what they are; if the 2 functions can’t find a meeting point no deal will get done.

Now let’s address the REAL issue with this thread. Tigger, based on what you write here it appears that your real problem isn’t with Hannity but, rather, is with Capitalism. You see, Tigger, profits are the way a business stays in business and staying in business is important because people that buy a product, especially such things as cars, like the business they dealt with to stay in existence. It makes things like getting replacement parts and repairs done a lot easier when the company that made your car and or car parts is still in operation.

Why would a business possibly operate at a break even or at a loss? Under that circumstance the business has all the product liability and financial risk with no reward! Who would invest in such a business? If you loaned this business money how would they pay you back? If there was an increased demand for the product or service this business provided how would they go about ramping up production if there was no profit to reinvest?

You anti-Capitalists are simply so doggone used to other people providing for you that you can’t see the forest through the trees! You figure the government is going to fill in all the holes? Well who the heck is going to provide the government with the resources to redistribute when profits go away? Let’s take this one step farther; if the government levies taxes based on profits then isn’t it MORE beneficial to your plan for a socialized utopia to have profitable enterprises up and running?

Tigger, the more you go off on how “hateful” Hannity and Limbaugh and “Big Business” are the more you expose your distaste for Capitalism and, by extension, Freedom. You, whether you choose to believe it or not, are a Socialist. Read up on Tony Blair and Bernard Crick. It should be like looking in a mirror for you.

OH MY..does Sean make me ever so angry!!! the song "get over it" needs to be embedded onto his forehead. if he thinks he can do better than obama then maybe HE should run for president. problem is, he wouldn't get elected.
So GET OVER IT, SEAN...I totally agree with the comment above, HANNITY IS A LOSER !!!!!!

I heard he's considering a run for the presidency! I'm hoping for a Hannity/Palin ticket!! That would get me out of my political funk! Maybe Ann Coulter for Secretary of State, couldn't be any worse than shrillery. Ollie North for Supreme Court justice, and Rush Limbaugh for chief of staff/communications director, and O'Reilly for Attorney General.
