Innovative Entrepreneurship

Innovation is dead in America. Look at Facebook. There is nothing particularly innovative there. Or clever. Or even intelligent. It's success is just pure luck. And anyone over the age of 25 doesn't have time to wait around for luck. Seems like only kids in dorm rooms who don't need an income have a chance any more.

The fact that luck is the major factor in determining business success on the Internet is discouraging at best. As a friend of mine once said, "The best way to become successful is to lay smack dab down in the middle of the road to opportunity and hope to get run over by a truck."

I agree with the premise, but don't agree with the situation. The fact is that thousands of people every day start their own new internet businesses. Most won't make it. True. But my question is are they doing it because they are truly creative and have a good idea or are they just trying to get rich quick? I doubt seriously if Mark sat down one day and asked himself, "What can I do today that will be worth 1B in two years?"

Negative Nancy aren't we? The internet gives us all the same opportunities to learn and or create. If your really think about it we really have a lot of possibilities to pursue or learn anything. So, rather than say that a mass user networking site that allows people to find old high school friends and connect and stay in contact with them in such an amazing way as like myspace, I say its brilliant. And I am already thinking how I could improve it and have the next new technology.

The subject line of this topic has little in common with the example given.

1. America is still possibly the most entrepreneurial nation on the planet.

2. I think FaceBook has been a case-study in how to design, develop, launch, market, grow and then leverage a simple idea.
