Distance Education is a really hot topic

I saw a stat today saying that over 40,000 people per month sign up to get a degree online. That's amazing! Would you consider getting a degree (another degree) online?

I have been seriously thinking of getting my MBA online, but I think that I would learn more having to actually go to class.

I read that stat too and was surprised by it. But, in our technological, always rushed society, it makes perfect sense. I know our local colleges offer a lot of their classes online. I don't know if the cost is different than traditional classes.

took an online course or two. Many courses do not lend themselves to online work, yet they are put there anyway.
Like math, you need a professor there immediately to help with new concepts. Other subjects are best taught in community, in real time conversations. Other programs are offered in subjects where there ought to be direct supervision. Heard yesterday of a masters in nursing program online. I think that is ridiculous.

I usually have a couple distance courses and I think they are not right for me. For one I feel like I am not actually learning anything because they leave it up to me to pretty much create my own lectures and I have figured out how to do the classes without ever opening a book. For some people they are really great if they work a lot and that's all they can do. The part of college that I think employers look at though is the self discipline it takes to go to class every day or every other day and actually sit and learn. It also makes me wonder about the future of schools because so many of them offer all of their classes online. Alright, I'm off to class and lab now. It would be totally impossible to have labs online that actually taught anything.
