iJailbreak is breaking the law

Or is it?

If you purchase an iPod Touch or iPhone, is it yours to do with what you please? Seems that Apple's attempts to control your wallet by making you purchase software only from them is failing. Is this Open Source running wild or is it plain and simple, theft?

Have you jail-broken your iPhone/iPod Touch? I think it is illegal, but Apple secretly endorses it because it makes a much bigger marketplace.

What do you think?

I think an iPhone is a computer, so you should be able to do whatever you want with it. I think forcing you to stick with one phone plan is lame! I do think downloading music/movies/media without paying is illegal, but how do you police that??

You should be able to choose what service and what you want to with your computers, pda, cellphone, or iphones. I'm tired of phones and devices being controlled and locked by a company.

Seriously... Seems like at some point it will all be a free for all, use whatever phone with whatever plan. Can't be anything other than greed driving the restrictions. I'm soooo tired of it. Yes, yes, go ahead and make a buck, but sheesh!

Exclusivity is very dumb. If you buy a product, I believe it is your right to do anything that doesn't violate patents or copyrights with it. Adding a 3rd party application to your device shouldn't be illegal, if it already is. If somebody isn't lending, but GIVING you something, it isn't theirs. They are really giving you the right to modify it for you to use.

When you make a purchase, it's yours. Plain and simple.

If you argued for unlocked phones in this thread, step up. The exclusivity is what is driving the innovation for the product to exist. IF you hacked it, you are simply cutting the legs out from under the people who's product you so admire>>>> The exclusivity isn't the thing "locking it down" - it's the thing that opens the doorway for it to be created in the first place. Do you think devices like this are created for free? Yep, that amazing camera, touch screen, software, firmware, and came for $499 a device including manufacturing...The deal for Apple is that now they can afford to develop and will come up with even cooler stuff for you try to hack.

I read that it costs apple 250 to 300 to make the phone. Add in marketing, apple A+ warranty, and other expenses ... They not making much. Apple is banking on the percentage it receives from at&t and iTunes.
