Apple Air is the Coolest Notebook Ever

I have been involved with notebook computers since the beginning. I remember thinking is was really cool when Toshiba announced their Satellite series because there was no reason for all the extra junk that the larger notebooks had in them.

Now, with the Air, we have the best of all worlds.

As a developer, I can go anywhere in the world and develop any application for Web, Mac or PC and have a complete development environment at my fingertips.

We have had this capability since the announcement of Intel Macs, but this ultra-lightweight member of the family makes porting it around just all that much easier.

Bravo Apple!

I wonder if it feels as flimsy as it looks? I hope not.

I would like extra power instead of the slimmness

I would totally go for the MacBook Air if it wasn't for 1 thing.

The processor speed is too slow for some of the games I would like to get.

I would have to say I agree. People must understand that it is still not apples best notebook. They do class it in the middle of there MacBook and MacBook Pro. The notebook does not need all those USB ports and stuff. I think it was a great move to not have an optical drive built in. The computer world is digital, from music, photos and even to the programs we download. How many time do you actually us your optical drive in a months time? How many times do you buy a, Microsoft office, XP, Vista, Mac OS X, Final Cut Studio? NOT OFTEN... maybe twice a year maybe. Those applications last on an average of 2 to 3 years. Apple has done there job with this one. It's just easier to port around and looking sexy while doing it.

oF people just LOVE to hate Macs, don't they? This new product is ideal for a specific tech user, not everyone. Ipod's were designed for tech users who like music. That's working out for them, right?

I too wish that it had all the functionality of a regular Powerbook. All Apple did this time was take stuff out to make it lighter. Big deal.

As someone with a EE degree I can appreciate a good hardware design. But as a software developer of 18+ years I have to tell you this laptop is not for me. I want to buy Air, but can't bring myself to do it. 80 gig, slow hard drive with no expansion? That kills it as a "developer" laptop for me. Entertainment laptop? My music library alone is > 80 gig. Commuter laptop for the train, bus? Maybe If they had a built in EVDO card, but I have to use a dongle in the only USB port? Maybe to impress the ladies, but the women I commute with are not *that* good looking. Video editing? Oh, never mind... I am holding onto my money waiting for the macbook pro upgrade.

I have been on the macbook air and its alright for doing work stuff but not that good for holding music. You may think that that's good your only going to use it for work but the macbook "black" is cheaper is better than the air and the bottom of the range MacBook pro.

While it is very cool, it lacks many features that are necessary for me to take my files with me. It is slim, sexy, lightweight, and an all around great product, but some of us, most of us actually, need more hard drive space.

I love that fact that there is no optical drive because it is clear that CDs and optical drives are on their way out, quickly. It is also very practical for traveling due to its slimness and weight. The main thing that bothers me is the hard drive space. I work off of a brand new MacBook Pro, which does everything and more that I need it to. It is a 4GB hard drive so It is fast as hell and very reliable. Apple truly does have a big lead in the whole industry, and for all of those that say Microsoft is better, I do detest ignorance, so lets just admit it now. OK?

All Apple products, unlike anything Microsoft has done, never ceases to amaze me. Apple, you have got the industry in a bag, and as for the mac book air, it is the most advanced in some cases, but in others, MacBook Pro takes the lead.
